PV stands for per vaginum, a Latin term meaning “through the vagina”. In clinical practice, a PV examination refers to a vaginal exam, during which the gynecologist visually and manually assesses the vagina, cervix, uterus, and adnexa (ovaries and fallopian tubes) for any abnormalities.
